• when an admin edits a subscriber inline, the “last activity” is not updated;
• if newsletters are not published on blog, there is not the “preview” link in edit screen messages (that shows a 404 error);
• on registration, if a new user does not subscribe the newsletter, the email is now added to unsubscribed db table.

Because the plugin tables were not installed/upgraded properly, there could be errors on new subscriptions: the worst scenario is the end of collecting subscribers…

Today I’ve released the new version 2.4 of EasyMail newsletter plugin.
Here you are the good news: now it’s possible to add custom fields into the subscription form, the link clicked inside newsletters are tracked, there is a new database table that contains the unsubscribed email addresses.

The custom field feature was developed for you by David Comuñas aka eqhes (website: http://eutopia.cat). Many thanks for your hard work, David!
In For developers page I’ve just added a quick info that explains how to add custom fields. Anyway, you can find an example of custom fields inside custom hook file: look for the function called custom_easymail_set_my_custom_fields. (What is that file? read more).

About click tracking, now the placeholders including a link (post url, site url, read online) will be tracked when clicked. It’s a good practice, also to have a more accurate feedback than only “viewed” tracking.

Then, now there is a new database table that contains the unsubscribed email addresses. So, when you mass import new email addresses, the already unsubscribed ones will not be added.

EasyMail 2.4: where are the .PO???

From 2.4 there are not .po files inside plugin package that now is a bit lighter. If you like to create or update a translation you can go to /code.google.com/p/alo-easymail, the translation project powered by László Viktor. There you can download files and join the translation group. Share your files!

A bug with a lot of subscribers

The problem: the plugin admin pages are not loaded properly. You can see only the top admin bar, the main menu, maybe the page title… but not the page content.
There is an issue if you have a large number of subscribers. The number could be 5.000, or 10.000, or more, it depends on your server operation timeouts.
Infact, in plugin admin pages (settings, subscriber list, edit newsletter screeen) the plugin counts the subscribers in each lists. If you have several lists, it does the count several times… and if you have a lot of subscribers the page could not be loaded because it’s counting… I’ll try to fix in future releases.
For now you can try to increase your server timeouts:
- in your wp-config.php add these lines:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '96M');
@ini_set( 'upload_max_size', '100M' );
@ini_set( 'post_max_size', '105M');
@ini_set( 'max_execution_time', '600' );

- in your .htaccess (in blog root: if this file does not exist, create it) add these lines:

php_value memory_limit 96M
php_value upload_max_filesize 100M
php_value post_max_size 105M
php_value max_execution_time 600
php_value max_input_time 600

Otherwise, in the meantime, if you think to manage a so large number of subscribers I suggest that you use a professional service like mailchimp, phplist, campaignmonitor ecc. (and you can find plugins that help you to integrate them in your blog).

The subscription form…

…is very old-style. It uses tables and not a modern html layout, sack library and not jquery. It’s one of the oldest part of the plugin and I’d like to rewrite it, also in order to make it more clean and customisable. It’s in todo list for next releases.

• le spese militari (21 miliardi all’anno), alle quali si aggiungono 15 miliardi per l’acquisto di 131 cacciabombardieri F35 (lo già scritto e lo ripeto: a che servono cacciabombardieri a un Paese che ripudia la guerra? a lanciare gli aiuti umanitari con più precisione?);
• i fondi pubblici e le esenzioni di cui gode la chiesa cattolica (6 miliardi all’anno).

Ps: dimenticavo la Tav che da sola fa almeno altri 20 miliardi.

• I added indexes in plugin database tables, so the queries run much faster than before
• now you have the opportunity to archive (=delete) the detailed report of old newsletters and keep only the aggregate info: it make plugin operations faster
• you can use also themes based on a php file, not only html (thanks to eqhes!)
• now there is an option to publish or not newsletters online (see in Newsletter → Settings → tab General)
